"A muscle moved in Tucker's jaw. "You mean you want breathing space. I breath better when you're close by."I've read this book in one sitting and mostly on the edge of my seat.
I enjoyed it much more than the first book, Fair Game. To be honest I had a very hard time getting back to this series, even if I already had the second and third books. I was pretty disappointed in the first one. I couldn't find the magic everybody saw. Maybe I wasn't in a good mood back then. Anyway, when I got back to this one, I wasn't really hooked from the start, but I kept reading and I got completely hooked by all that mystery! I can't believe I suspected each and every one of them! I had some crazy thoughts. The suspense was killing me!
I ended loving Elliot and Tucker so much. These two hot men have something special. They are still adjusting to being together and their lives are as far from the ordinary as they can get! Tucker is an FBI agent, and Elliot is a former agent who was injured and chose to retire and be an Uni history teacher. But his life isn't boring at all. On the contrary. Arrows, traveling to Canada, digging his father's past something fierce. Boy my head was spinning!
Elliot never gave up and wanted to protect his father with all costs. He surprised me. And I have to admit I really understood his point regarding Tucker's actions.
I'm sorry we get only Elliot's point of view here. I also loved everything about Tucker - his strength, his brilliant mind, his cocky attitude, his dominant side and sometimes, his words melted me heart:
"I've got two priorities in life. You and my job. And yes, I will do whatever it takes in the interest of those two things. But as important as my job is to me, if it came down to you or the job, I'd quit tomorrow. And if you don't know that by now, there isn't anything more to say."
I'm going right to the next book. From the blurb I know I will be on the edge again. This author surely knows how to keep us entertained.

Fair Play All Fair Book 2 edition by Josh Lanyon Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I like the mystery in this story. Oh so slowly unwinding, never frustrating, never dragging on, never haltingly stingy with the reveals. Amidst all of this, Elliot and Tucker are dealing with both internal and those external stresses. The portrayal of their attempts to work things out, to learn and understand more about each other is very realistic. Instead of pushing away, they stick close, even when they’re not too keen on each other. Roland is heavily involved in this particular story and it helped create a fantastic atmosphere that allowed for this further exploration of the relationship between Elliot and Tucker.
Elliot and Tucker definitely have some tricky curves to navigate when it comes to being in a serious relationship. To say their dynamic can be complicated is a bit of an understatement. The one thing that’s not at all complicated is that they are utterly in love with each other. Yes, their personalities clash sometimes, but they are learning to think things through, to try and see the other’s point of view when one of them feels they’ve been wronged by the other. The long and short of it is, this is a wonderful portrayal of mature people making their way around inside their relationship. They want to make it work. They want to share everything that comes from succeeding in doing just that. I so enjoyed experiencing all of this with them.
What I also enjoyed? All of the moving parts of this story. I pictured gears inside a huge but smoothly running cousin of Big Ben, all of them confidently playing their role for the whole. This translates to fantastic pacing and plotting. For me, this is one of Lanyon’s best. Delicious fiction.
The intimacy between Elliot and Tucker goes right along with everything else in this book. Emotionally, that intimacy is beautiful, palpable. Physically, it’s pouring right off the page. I could feel the warmth and the effort and the love.
** He shook his head, and Tucker kissed him harder, tongue delving. Even if Elliot could control his own longing, how the hell did he control Tucker? He didn’t. He couldn’t. That was the best part of it. **
There are surprises, turns in the story that buck convention. I like that. A lot. This is one more thing that, for me, demonstrates some of Lanyon’s best storytelling. He doesn’t take the easy way out or use the cheap tricks to move his story forward. His characters remain true to themselves, their behavior, reactions and conversations don’t suffer from foundationless tension. Any push and pull occurs organically. There is a lot to hold onto while reading this book.
This is one of my favorite books this year and definitely one of my favorites from this author. It’s going on the comfort food shelf and will be read again and again.
